Jackfruit

Jackfruit is one such fruit whose vegetable is also made and it is tasty. The fruit in itself is very tasty with soft fleshy feel and sweet flavor. One can compare it to a banana a bit because it is very smooth and sweet. The flesh is very high in fiber . It is one such fruit, which I think is not very attractive in its outer appearance and not that easy to pick up and eat or munch whenever you want to. It is very thorny and not attractive , but for me, I like it very much. I love the fruit as well as the vegetable of it. I am having around ten trees at my parents native place. I remember those huge trees , taller than any mango and litchi trees. Big, huge trees, covered with jackfruits, and some use to be so big in sizes that one jackfruit could be enjoyed and shared with our all our neighbours too. Its interior consists of eye-catching orange-yellow color edible bulbs. Each bulb consists of sweet flesh that encloses a smooth, oval, light-brown seed. There may be as many as 50 to 500 edible bulbs embedded in a single fruit interspersed in-between thin bands of fibers. It largely compose of starch and protein. The seeds are so good and high in proteins that if you are including them in your daily diet, like tossing on your salads, munching in free time or making a roasted snack with a dash of salt and pepper on it, adding them in other dishes or finely slicing them and adding in your sandwiches, I mean, there are hundreds of ways to put that thing in your stomach and I bet you, you will love it like anything and the boring process of making a healthy lentil soup everyday is also skipped. Well, yes, sometimes we can enjoy the soup of lentils or pulses too, I don't mind :) . If you are suffering from indigestion you can take the powdered form of its seeds , which you can either make it by sun drying the seeds or buy a ready made form if it is available near your place. one more benefit of seeds, you know what ? HAIRS!!!!, half of the world is running after beauty and hairs. So if you want to look beautiful with beautiful flawless skin and long shiny hairs, switch on to JACKFRUIT- The Wonder Fruit. It is good in Vit A so, is good for hairs. It will not let the hairs look dull, frizzy, down and dry.

Country like our, India, we get both the fruit as well as vegetable form of the fruit. In some countries it is sold canned and that too in sugar syrup so it is not a healthy form to eat. The unripe one which is used as a vegetable is so delicious and I remember my mom cooking it. It tastes like mutton because the flesh of the fruit is somewhat like that of a mutton and if you cook in gravy , thick one like of a mutton, it just taste like it. It is liked by most of the people here, whether they are meat eater or not. My mom use to boil and pickle the seeds of it and they use to be so sour in taste, I can feel the taste on the tip of my tongue, while writing. Ohh!! I wish she could fly here to my place and make some for me. I have heard people making jams out of the fruit but I have never tasted it, but it must be tasty as it is known to be a hit  here. People like jack fruit candies and cakes too, well I don't like it in that way because it is already good in fructose and eating sugar and sugar is not good for health. The fruit in itself is so sweet that adding more sweet to it by adding more sugar and more sugar intake in our body. The best part is that it is a very healthy fruit with almost no fats. It is high in calories with no cholesterol or saturated fats. The reason that it is high in calories and carbohydrates, it gives us instant energy after eating.
